Summary: The Karnstein's maid, Rovena (Nela Conjiu), performs a magic ritual in the castle's crypt to relieve Laura (Adriana Ambesi), the Count's daughter, from her constant nightmares. Count Ludwig Karnstein (Christopher Lee) becomes convinced that his daughter is possessed by her two hundred year old ancestor Sera Karnstein, who was crucified for being a witch. When a nearby carriage accident forces a woman to leave her daughter, Lyuba (Pier-Anna Quaglia), in the Karnstein's care for some time, Laura develops a close association with the girl, whose looks are remarkably similar to the old witch. In order to reveal the mystery, the Count enlists the help of young scientist Friedrich Klauss (Jose Campos). When other members of the Karnstein family die in bizarre accidents, Count Ludwig finally realises that his suspicions are true and that Lyuba is actually Sera's spirit, who forces his daughter to drink the blood of the descendants of those responsible for her execution. Trying to rescue his daughter from the evil grip of the witch, the Count and Ludwig head towards the family crypt, discovering Sera's hidden tomb...
Note: - Director Camillo Mastrocinque (best known for his "Toto..." comedies) was apparently influenced by Mario Bava's La Maschera Del Demonio for this loosely based adaptation of J. Sheridan LeFanu's lesbian vampire novel "Carmilla".
- In 1970, British Hammer Films released their own "Karnstein" trilogy (also based on "Carmilla"), starting with The Vampire Lovers, followed by Lust For A Vampire and Twins Of Evil (both 1971).
